NeighbourFood: Local Food Day at the Cafe

Eternal Abundance and SFU undergraduate students hosted a special Local Food Day! We prepared a special all-local (except the olive oil and salt) raw and cooked meal options for the day with nutritious organic ingredients grown around the Vancouver area, while The Neighbourfood Team from “Sustainable Innovations” course at SFU shared information on the importance of local food – nutrition, flavour, environment, economy-wise, etc!
Veg Meetup Vancouver Holiday Dinner Party Healthy Holiday Treats Sampling with For the Love of Food
Julie Beyer, Holistic Chef and Educator, Holistic Nutrition student, and creator of the GLOW collection , offered samples of her treats, which are scrumptious organic, dairy-, sugar- & gluten-free snacks to satisfy common cravings such as sugar, chocolate and chips in the healthiest and most delicious way.~AngelWrks presents “For the love of life”~This was a fundraiser for Singing Cedar Studios, a small studio in East Van that will provide space for the community to come together and connect through yoga, music and art.

Home Sprouting Basics
This workshop covers the nutritional and economic  benefits of sprouting methods for grains, legumes, nuts & seeds; how to incorporate sprouts into your daily life with ease; and lots of delicious samples and recipes to get you started. Presented by the passionate, knowledgeable, and friendly J.P and Katherine of New Fangled Organics! This workshop was held in October 2011 and sold out!!

“What’s on the Menu: Vegetarian, Vegan and Raw Nutrition and Food” and “Healthy Nutrition for a Raw Vegan Diet”by Vesanto Melina
In July and August we hosted Vesanto Melina, Registered Dietician and co-author of several books on vegan and vegetarian nutrition. She discussed the latest research and provided practical information regarding vegan, vegtarian, and raw food diets, including nutritionally adequate raw and vegan diets; challenges that may arise, along with solutions; and current research regarding plant based diets in relation to certain cancers, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and other ailments.

Shine & Navaro – Didj, Drum, Deep Grooves for Dance Magic & Cacao Mystery! Navaro Franco and Shine Edgar presented powerful music for Blissing Out on Dance, Deep Listening, and Ecstatic Cacao treats!

JOIN! Raw Japanese-Asian Fusion Dinner and Beats  Chef Kishino combined her love of raw food with her Japanese heritage to present an AMAZING and delicious raw organic vegan dinner and an assortment of sweets. Wata Ru jammed on didjeridu! And everyone who attended was lovely!

Great Bear Rainforest community nights Film screenings, guest speakers, music, and low impact locally-grown menu items to raise awareness of the beauty, ecology, and fragility of the Great Bear Rainforest. We’re hosting one or two events per week starting Monday, May 14, and culminating in feeding the masses at the Great Bear Rainforest Celebration at Trout Lake on Saturday, June 2!

Screening: Fat, Sit, and Nearly Dead    Saturday, May 19. FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD is an inspiring film that chronicles Joe’s personal mission to regain his health while traveling across America, juicer in tow, and inspiring others to do the same. Entry includes a green juice sample.

New Ways of Exchange: an evening with Open Money pioneer Michael Linton We spent the evening learning and understanding the money we all take for granted and its systematic flaws, and learned about movements afoot in Vancouver to implement practical new means of exchange that serve their communities
SEEDSTOCK: Changing the economics of local in Vancouver  Seedstock is a community currency proposed by two Vancouverites that uses the insights of Open Money to “change the economics of local” in Metro Vancouver. Based firmly in the local food economy and extending to include local artists and performers, craftspeople, health and wellness professionals and more, Seedstock will repattern the flow of money and goods though Vancouver’s economy in favour of the local.

Public Forum: Stop Smart Meters & Start New Energy We hosted the trailer screening premiere of Stop Smart Meters: The Film and discussion. Following, new energy solutions were presented by special guests Joel Bellenson and Josef Tyls. http://smartmeterfilm.com or at the store. All net donations go towards the community-funded Stop Smart Meters: The Film. Entry includes an organic soup or dessert!

Winter Solstice – Celebration of Our New Earth and The Return of The Light We sang, danced, and were entranced Shine, Navaro & Dj ElementalRhythm.

Benefit Concert for Sharon Thank you to everyone who came out to fill the house and donate their loving energy, talent, and money at this fundraiser concert which raised $600 for Sharon, the amazing street girl who touched many hearts when she sang at the World Kindness Concert in November! Funds raised were used to open an account at the store so she can nourish herself with organic food. Several other incredible musicians performed along with Sharon: Ron Irving, Jonas & Jeanette, Veronica Iza, Luke Isaac, and Michael Vincent.

Holiday Cooking classes  We hosted several wonderful classes, including “Raw Holiday Meal” and “Detox 101” . Check out the cooking classes page for further details!

Film nights  Community film nights followed by discussion. We recently showed THRIVE, The Economics of Happiness and Forks Over Knives. Look forward to more film nights in Fall 2012!

Permaculture series  Permaculture activist Rin Innes presented three dynamic and interactive talks on Permaculture strategies for a radical reintegration of urban human communities with the ecology that supports us.
