Sourced from a deep salt water aquifer on the isolated west coast of South Africa, Gathering Place Trading’s sea salt is the purest on the Earth.

The Antarctic Ocean water is naturally filtered, passing through miles of compressed seashells and sand to produce salt that is not contaminated. It is then sun and wind dried with no machine processing, and is hand-harvested and then sieved – never machine cut or ground.

Gathering Place Antarctic Pure Sea Salt is naturally harvested by a Fair for Life FairTrade™ Certified and HACCP certified family business, which betters the lives of their workers through education, child care, and health care. They also provide a portion of their profits to support employee-selected projects in the South African community.

While most of the world’s salt is mined from non-renewable sources, Gathering Place’s sea salt originates from the Benguela current in the Antarctic Ocean, on the West Coast of South Africa. The water flows through layers of shells into a deep aquifer. This natural process purifies the water and increases the abundance of minerals, while removing micro-plastics and other contaminants. This pristine brine is sun and wind-dried and the crystals are hand-harvested by their South African fair trade partners, never machine cut or ground. The sea salt is unrefined and free from additives or preservatives.
